On Yellow Daisy Festival days in September, Highland Games weekend in October, and through Snow Mountain and the summer lasershow nights, the exit 8 backup reaches the freeway and the Village’s west-gate side fills with visitor parking. Jobs on those dates start early, with the crew rolling before the gates get busy, or move to a weekday if the date is flexible — and if a weekday genuinely runs shorter, that gets said on the call rather than after the invoice.
Most of what leaves here does not leave the county: west into Decatur, north up Rockbridge into Gwinnett, east along US-78. The Village is the tightest access in the area, and it is routine work. Those Main Street blocks were laid out around a railroad in the 1840s and a walking-scale downtown, so a 26-foot box often has nowhere legal to stop. What usually happens instead: a box van sized to the block, or a shuttle staged two streets over with the load relayed in. Period door casings, newel posts and stair turns get covered before the first carton moves, because plaster and heart pine do not forgive a corner. Is my address in the city, the county, or Tucker?
Probably not the city. Stone Mountain the municipality covers 1.7 square miles; Stone Mountain the postal name covers many times that, reaching across unincorporated DeKalb, over the Gwinnett line, and into the City of Tucker. Smoke Rise is the clearest example, sitting inside Tucker's limits while its mail still reads Stone Mountain. That distinction never touches your rate. Can a truck get up a Smoke Rise driveway?
Sometimes to the door, often only to the street. The north side sits on granite with a thin layer of soil over it, so driveways climb, curve and pass under canopy that has had fifty years to grow down. The pack-out is labelled by destination room, not by origin, because the new apartment holds a fraction of what the house did. Furniture goes where it is meant to live, so the first evening is spent living there rather than working around boxes. Relatives handling it from another state can run the entire booking by phone.
