LIOO Moving provides movers in Decatur, GA, for the bungalow streets, the mid-rises around the Square and every house inside the city limits of the DeKalb County seat. Decatur, a city of pre-war bungalows and deep porches, still counts 22.7% of its housing as built in 1939 or earlier.
LIOO Moving provides movers in Decatur, GA, for the houses, bungalows, condos and apartments inside the city limits: the blocks around the Square, the MAK district and Sycamore Street beside it, Oakhurst and Winnona Park south of the railroad, and Glennwood Estates and the Clairemont Avenue streets to the north. The city is the DeKalb County seat and covers 4.6 square miles in one piece. Five ZIP codes carry its name and only one is mostly inside it, so the address decoder comes before the neighborhoods.

One county seat, three kinds of street
Moving in Decatur, GA
The city is small, old and surrounded. It covers 4.6 square miles in one piece; Atlanta touches its west side for three miles, Avondale Estates meets it for about 200 yards on the east, and the rest of the line runs against unincorporated county land with the same postmark. The county courthouse has stood on the Square since 1823, and the oldest houses date to the 1880s.
The housing comes in three ages, and each sets a different move. South of the railroad and MARTA line, the streets grew up around the 1889 academy that became Agnes Scott College: the MAK district, the city's first subdivision, was laid out in 1907 across ten blocks of McDonough Street, Adams Street and Kings Highway with craftsman houses from the first three decades of the 1900s; Oakhurst was its own streetcar town from 1910 until the city annexed it in 1914; Winnona Park grew along the trolley line. North of the Square, Glennwood Estates, Great Lakes and the Clairemont Avenue streets are 1910-to-1950s garden suburbs with driveways and houses set back from the street.
Downtown is the third age. The Square reopened on 5 June 2026 after a rebuild that put a permanent stage, a lawn and a play area on it, and its footprint has grown into the North McDonough Street loop, which is closed again for the project's second phase. The apartment buildings and condos sit within a few blocks of it, on East Trinity Place, East Ponce de Leon Avenue and Church Street, and most of them have their own parking decks. A move there turns on a deck entrance and a freight window rather than a porch.

The Decatur Square & Curb Sheet
Downtown gives a crew three places to put a truck, a loop, a metered curb or a deck entrance, and the city's rules decide which one applies on a given morning. Each row names the place, the rule that governs it, and what dispatch does about it.

Postmark versus city line
Which Decatur addresses this page plans
Five ZIP codes carry the city's name. One of them holds 99 percent of the city, and the other four hold almost none of it. The rows below put each address on its side of the line and name the page that plans it.

Agnes Scott College at 141 East College Avenue sits inside the city, and a dorm or student move there is planned with the college moving crews. The unincorporated addresses that carry the city's postmark are planned on this page too, because no other page covers them; the streets, decks and school rules above apply inside the line only.
Decks downtown, porches everywhere else
Decatur apartment, condo and townhome moves
Downtown holds the city's apartment and condo buildings within a few blocks of the Square, and the bungalow streets and garden suburbs hold everything else. A building asks for paperwork; a bungalow asks for a measured carry.
A downtown building loads from its deck entrance or its frontage. Arlo has its own deck, the county deck beside it enters from West Trinity Place, and the Town Center and East Ponce de Leon Avenue decks serve the buildings around them, so the truck's spot is the entrance the office names and never a metered space. Some buildings let the mover reserve the freight elevator and some reserve it only for the resident; the office's answer sets the window, and the certificate of insurance naming the building is filed as soon as the office sends its requirements.
A bungalow in the MAK district or Oakhurst loads from the curb at its porch, and its 1910s-to-1930s front door, not the truck, sets the plan: the furniture that will not clear it is taken apart and rebuilt at the new address on the clock. A house in Glennwood Estates or on the Clairemont Avenue streets loads from its own driveway, and that driveway's length goes into the estimate as a carry.

Curb, driveway or deck
Parking, loading and truck access in Decatur
A truck in this city sits in one of three places: at the curb below a bungalow porch, in a garden-suburb driveway, or at a downtown frontage or deck entrance. The estimate names which one. The LIOO fleet is 26-foot box trucks with lift gates, so a deck's posted clearance decides whether the truck goes inside it.
At a bungalow the truck stops at the curb nearest the porch and the crew carries the rest, so the curb-to-door distance is measured at the estimate. At a house with a driveway the truck backs in when the grade and the trees allow, and the walkthrough records the carry when they do not. Downtown, the two-hour meters and the ticketed loading zones rule out the curb for a 2.5-hour job, so the truck takes the frontage or deck entrance the office names.
A portable container or rental truck parked in the street falls under the same right-of-way permit as a dumpster, applied for before it arrives; on a driveway it needs nothing. Furniture that is leaving the household is cleared before the date, because a metered block gives it no place to wait.
Three calendars
Timing and traffic for Decatur moves
Three calendars set move dates in the city: the school year, the college's move-in week and the Square's event closures.
City Schools of Decatur runs from 3 August 2026 to 27 May 2027, with Thanksgiving break from 23 to 27 November, the semester break from 21 December to 4 January and spring break from 5 to 9 April, and family moves bunch into late June and July ahead of the first day. Agnes Scott College moves its new students in during the third week of August, which fills the blocks around the campus. The Book Festival takes the Square on an early-October Saturday, 3 October in 2026, and the barbecue festival fills Harmony Park in Oakhurst on a mid-October Saturday, 17 October in 2026; the Wine Festival follows on the East Court Square loop on 7 November. Month-end weekends book two to three weeks out, mid-month weekdays about a week out, and a same-day crew is a phone call.
The card, and what eats the hours here
Decatur moving costs
The invoice is crew size times hours. Three things in this city add hours and none of them touches the rate: the carry from a bungalow curb to its door, a freight window or deck entrance downtown, and a start pushed by a school street or a festival. The brackets below are the published ranges by home size, and the tiles are the card.
| Home size | Typical homes here | Crew | Typical range |
|---|---|---|---|
| Studio | A downtown apartment loaded from the deck entrance | 2 movers | $400–$700→ |
| 1 Bedroom | Arlo and the downtown buildings | 2 movers | $480–$900→ |
| 2 Bedroom | An Oakhurst or Winnona Park bungalow loaded from the curb | 3 movers | $700–$1,300→ |
| 3 Bedroom | A MAK craftsman house or a Glennwood Estates house with a driveway | 3–4 movers | $1,000–$1,800→ |
| 4 Bedroom+ | The larger Clairemont Avenue houses with a long drive | 4–6 movers | $1,200–$2,400+→ |
| Actual costs vary based on inventory, stairs, elevator use, carry distance, and truck access. | |||
Local moves are billed hourly for crew and truck: 2 movers $160/hr, 3 movers $200/hr, 4 movers $240/hr, 5 movers $280/hr, 6 movers $320/hr.
Hourly rates, crew and truck included
| $160/hr2 movers + truck | $200/hr3 movers + truck | $240/hr4 movers + truck | $280/hr5 movers + truck | $320/hr6 movers + truck |
Labor-only, your truck
| $140/hr2 movers, your truck | $180/hr3 movers, your truck | $220/hr4 movers, your truck | $260/hr5 movers, your truck | $300/hr6 movers, your truck |
There is a 2.5-hour minimum on weekday local moves. Weekends carry a 3-hour minimum, as do same-day bookings and moves of 25 miles or more from downtown. Labor-only crews, with no truck, are $140/hr for 2 movers, $180 for 3, $220 for 4, $260 for 5 and $300 for 6, on the same 2.5-hour weekday and 3-hour weekend minimums.
Second truck: homes that need two trucks bill on the two-truck rate — $260/hr with 3 movers, $305 with 4, $355 with 5, $405 with 6. A $100 specialty-item fee applies per piano, gun safe or single item over 300 pounds, unless quoted otherwise in writing. Lighter furniture carries no item fee. Not carried: firearms and ammunition, hazardous materials such as fuel, paint and chemicals, and perishable food; the moving preparation guide has the full list.
Three address types, five crews
Services that fit Decatur homes
A downtown building, a bungalow and a garden-suburb house each call for a different crew plan, and five service lines cover them, all as local moving on the card above.
Apartment and condo moves
The buildings within a few blocks of the Square, loaded from a deck entrance or the frontage, with the crew sized to the freight window and the certificate filed ahead.
Full-house residential moves
The MAK, Oakhurst and Winnona Park bungalows loaded from the curb, and the Glennwood Estates and Clairemont Avenue houses loaded from a driveway. The walkthrough records the door width and the carry before the crew is sized.
Packing services
Full or partial packing the day before a curb carry or a deck window, so the move day is spent carrying rather than packing. In a bungalow with one front door, boxes staged by room keep the carry moving.
Labor-only loading
Your rental truck in your own driveway, loaded and unloaded by the crew on the labor-only card. A portable container is loaded where it sits, on the driveway or under the city's right-of-way permit in the street.
Office and storefront moves
Commercial moves for the shops and offices around the Square, on the same hourly card, quoted in writing after a walkthrough and started before the meters run or on a Sunday morning when the loops are open.
Two city borders, four roads out
Where moves from Decatur go
Atlanta meets the city on the west and Avondale Estates on the east, and four roads carry moves out. Each linked page plans its own end of the run.
- West across the three-mile shared line on Ponce de Leon Avenue or College Avenue
- Northwest on Clairemont Avenue toward Emory and the Olmsted streets
- East on College Avenue across the short shared line
- Southwest past the Oakhurst blocks into the Village
- Northeast on Scott Boulevard and the county roads beyond it
Every other DeKalb page sits under LIOO's DeKalb County service areas.
What callers ask about these addresses
Decatur moving questions
My address is Decatur, GA 30033. Which page plans my move?
This page, as unincorporated county land. Less than 1 percent of that ZIP's land is inside the city; the rest runs along North Decatur Road and Scott Boulevard, in DeKalb County Schools rather than the city district, so the city's parking, permit and school rules on this page do not apply there. LIOO Moving plans and quotes the move here; only the Emory and Clifton Road side, which carries Atlanta addresses, is planned on the Druid Hills page.
Is my Decatur, GA 30030 address inside the city limits?
Usually, but not always. About 68 percent of the ZIP's land is inside the city, and that land makes up 99 percent of the city, so the North Decatur and Belvedere Park sides of the ZIP are outside the line. The line also decides the school district, because the city school district serves only addresses inside the city. Send the street with the booking and dispatch confirms which side of the line it sits on.
Can a moving container sit on my street in Oakhurst?
In the street, only with a city right-of-way permit. The city requires a permit for anything placed in its right of way, with a $500 performance bond, a $50 fee and a liability certificate or an owner's letter, and the same rule covers a dumpster. On a driveway the container needs no permit. The crew loads or unloads it labor-only on the same hourly card, so the drop spot is fixed before the container is ordered.
I am moving into Arlo on East Trinity Place. Who books the elevator and the certificate of insurance?
Arlo's office decides who may reserve the elevator. Where it lets a mover book the window, LIOO Moving books it; where only the resident can, dispatch sizes the crew to the window you hold. The certificate of insurance naming Arlo is filed the day its requirements arrive. The building has its own deck and shares its street with the county and Benchmark deck entrances, so the truck uses the entrance the office names, never a two-hour meter.
Our house in the MAK district has porch steps and a narrow front door. How does that change the crew?
The rate stays; the hours grow. The district's craftsman houses date from the 1910s to the 1930s, so the estimate measures the sofa, the dressers and the bed frames against the front door, and the crew takes apart what will not clear it and rebuilds it at the new address on the clock. The truck stops at the curb nearest the porch, one of three movers works the steps, and the curb-to-door carry is written into the estimate.
The Wine Festival falls on my move date. Can the truck still reach a Square address?
Yes, if the start is set around it. The 2026 Wine Festival takes the East Court Square loop on Saturday 7 November from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m., and the North McDonough Street loop on the other side of the Square is already closed for the Square project's second phase. A Square-facing address that day loads in the morning from its own frontage or from the open side streets, and a building with a deck loads from the deck entrance.
What makes a move here cost more than the range for its home size?
Only the hours, never the rate. The card is fixed by crew size, and four local conditions add time here: a porch-and-door carry at a 1910s bungalow, a freight window or deck entrance downtown where the meters allow only two hours, a school-street start pushed past 9 a.m., and a long driveway carry in the garden suburbs north of the Square. Actual costs vary based on inventory, stairs, elevator use, carry distance, and truck access.
When are moving dates here hardest to get?
Late June and July, when families move in ahead of the school district's first day on 3 August 2026, and month-end weekends all year. The school year ends on 27 May 2027 and the semester break runs from 21 December to 4 January, and both fill early. Book a month-end weekend two to three weeks out and a mid-month weekday about a week out; a same-day crew is a phone call when one is open.
Hold the date
Booking your Decatur move
A date is held by phone or through the quote form at the top of the page. LIOO Moving is a Georgia Household Goods Carrier under GA DPS / Motor Carrier Compliance Division. A 25% deposit is fully credited to your final bill. Released value is $0.60 per pound. The LIOO Moving office is available 24/7. LIOO Moving uses in-house, background-checked crews and never brokers or subcontracts moves.
A quote for an address here starts with the street and the ZIP code, because the line decides the plan, then the floor or driveway, the home size and the building's requirements sheet if there is one. The reply names the crew, the hourly rate, the truck's spot and any school-street or festival timing on the date. About LIOO Moving and the customer reviews are one link each, and a short-notice date is quoted by phone when a crew is open.
