What movers cost in Atlanta.

In Atlanta, professional movers typically cost $160–$320 per hour depending on crew size, with most local moves totaling between $400 and $2,400. Those are LIOO Moving’s actual rates, not an estimate range built to capture your phone number. Every local move carries a 2.5-hour minimum (3 hours on weekends, same-day bookings, and moves 25+ miles from downtown), and the rate covers the crew and the truck together — no separate truck fee. Every move also includes released valuation of $0.60 per pound per item.

Crew Rate (crew + truck) Typical fit
2 movers $160 /hr Studios, 1BR apartments, labor-only jobs
3 movers $200 /hr 2BR apartments, small houses
4 movers $240 /hr 3BR houses, heavy furniture counts
5 movers $280 /hr 4BR houses
6 movers $320 /hr Large houses, staged or multi-stop moves

What actually moves the number in Atlanta: elevator wait time in Midtown and Buckhead towers, carry distance in podium-style apartment buildings where the freight elevator sits at the far end of the parking deck, interior stairs in Virginia-Highland and Grant Park bungalows, and street access in neighborhoods like Cabbagetown, where a full-size truck can’t always park within sight of the front door. When you request a quote, tell us the building type — it changes the crew-size recommendation more than square footage does.

A 25% reservation deposit secures your move date and is fully credited toward your final bill.

Rates confirmed September 2026 — the figures above are the current published rate card, re-checked against our minimums and deposit rule on 29 September 2026.

Time & hours

How long a move takes in Atlanta.

Most Atlanta apartment moves take 3 to 6.5 hours; most houses take 4.5 to 9 or more. Apartment hours run long for a building reason, not a packing reason — every COI check-in, elevator window, and corridor carry meters the pace a crew can load. You pay by the hour, so the hours column is what drives the total.

Home Crew Typical hours Typical total
Studio 2 2.5–4.5 $400–700
1BR 2 3–5.5 $480–900
2BR 3 3.5–6.5 $700–1,300
3BR 3–4 4.5–7.5 $1,000–1,800
4BR+ 4–6 5–9+ $1,200–2,400+

What pushes a move toward the top of its range is mostly waiting and walking, not lifting: sharing a freight elevator with other move-ins on a month-end weekend, the walk from a parking deck to the unit on every single trip, and furniture that has to come apart — beds, sectionals, treadmills — before it can leave the room. Booking a start time that avoids the Connector at rush hour protects the low end of the range.

Pricing models compared

Hourly, flat-rate, labor-only or marketplace: which fits your move.

There are four ways to buy a move in Atlanta and they bill for different things. LIOO runs full-service local moves hourly, prices Georgia long-distance per shipment, and sells labor-only crews on a separate card. We do not sell a flat rate for local moves — a flat price for an intown apartment move is an hourly estimate with padding built in, and the padding is yours to pay whether the day runs long or not.

Four ways to buy an Atlanta move
Model What you pay for Fits best Check before booking
Hourly full-service LIOO local moves Crew and truck together by the hour: $160–$320 per hour by crew size, 2.5-hour minimum (3 hours on weekends, same-day bookings and moves 25+ miles from downtown). Released valuation of $0.60 per pound per item included. Any local move where access is knowable in advance — apartments, houses, condos and offices, ITP and OTP. The quote names crew size and hourly rate, the minimum is stated, and the deposit is a defined percentage credited to your bill.
Flat-rate or binding price LIOO Georgia long-distance One fixed price built from a survey or inventory. LIOO prices Georgia long-distance moves this way, on shipment weight and distance from a survey, with binding and not-to-exceed options available. Long hauls where the route, not the clock, drives the cost. What the price excludes — stairs, long carries, extra stops, packing — and whether it is binding or only “not to exceed”.
Labor-only LIOO labor-only card Crew only, no truck: $140–$300 per hour by crew size on the labor-only rate card, same minimums, 25% deposit credited to the bill. U-Haul, PODS and container loads, storage-unit moves, and in-home rearranging where the transport is already yours. Whether the crew brings dollies, pads and straps, and whose coverage applies to the goods once they are on your truck.
Marketplace or booking platform Not a LIOO product A platform fee plus the crew’s rate. The platform matches you with a crew it does not usually employ, so the company you paid may not be the one at your door. Small loads with flexible dates, when price matters more than who shows up. Which company holds the Georgia household-goods certificate for your job, and whose valuation coverage pays if something breaks.

The one question that sorts all four: who is legally responsible for your goods between the first door and the last. On an hourly or binding LIOO move the answer is LIOO Moving, a licensed Georgia household-goods carrier. On a marketplace booking, ask before you pay.

Local operational knowledge

We already know your building type.

In Atlanta, the building decides the move more than the square footage does. Here’s how the three most common types actually run.

High-rise

Midtown & Buckhead towers

Most towers require a certificate of insurance naming the building before a crew is allowed in, plus a reserved freight-elevator window — often a hard block booked through management. Tell us the building name when you book; we coordinate the COI and the elevator reservation with management before move day. Furniture leaves the unit wrapped in moving blankets, the freight car is padded, and floor protection runs the lobby route before the first load. If your window is fixed, we size the crew to finish inside it.

Podium / 4-over-1

Old Fourth Ward, West Midtown & the BeltLine

These 4-over-1 buildings usually run one freight elevator for several hundred units, with the loading area buried in the parking deck. The hidden cost is carry distance — deck to elevator to a long corridor, on every trip. That distance is dolly work — loads ride strapped on hand trucks so the deck-to-corridor run costs trips, not damage — and a third mover on these jobs typically pays for itself in saved hours.

Bungalow / walkup

Virginia-Highland, Grant Park, Inman Park & Candler Park

Narrow streets, street parking, mature trees over the curb line, and 1920s interior staircases. We plan truck positioning and carry paths before move day, and pad-wrap at the door rather than in the truck when the path is tight. Door frames get protected on 1920s trim, and beds or sectionals that outsize a stairwell turn are disassembled and rebuilt at the other end.

How to vet a Georgia mover

Check the certificate before you check the reviews.

Every company moving household goods within Georgia must hold a Household Goods Carrier Certificate from the Georgia Department of Public Safety’s Motor Carrier Compliance Division. If a mover can’t show that certificate, the price doesn’t matter.

01

The deposit. It should be a defined percentage credited to your bill — LIOO’s is a 25% reservation deposit, fully credited toward your final bill — never a large cash deposit held separately.

02

The coverage. Every licensed mover includes basic released valuation at $0.60 per pound per item, and full-value protection must be offered as an option you elect before the job. A mover who can’t explain the difference hasn’t read their own tariff.

03

The quote. It should name the crew size and the hourly rate, not just a total — so you can see what you’re actually paying for and check it against the hours worked.

Lead time

How far ahead to book Atlanta movers.

Book two to three weeks ahead for a month-end weekend, about a week ahead for a mid-month weekday, and call the same day if that is what you have — LIOO runs 24/7 and takes same-day and next-day bookings on a 3-hour minimum. The 25% reservation deposit is what holds the date. A quote on its own reserves nothing, and on the last weekend of the month that difference decides whether you move.

  • Month-end weekend 2–3 weeks

Leases turn over on the 1st, so the last Friday through Sunday of the month is the tightest window in every apartment submarket. Freight elevators in Midtown and Buckhead are booked by other move-ins, not just by us.

  • Mid-month weekday About a week

Book easier, run faster, and the 2.5-hour minimum applies instead of the weekend 3-hour tier. If your lease gives you the flexibility, this is where the money is.

  • Same-day, next-day, nights Call now

Dispatch picks up at any hour. What we can do today depends on what is already on the board, at the same hourly rates — see same-day movers.

What booking early actually buys you is not the truck. It is the things that take days: the certificate of insurance your building wants on file, the reserved freight-elevator window, and a right-of-way permit if your street needs one. Those are what run out first.

If plans change. You can cancel or reschedule before move day. The 25% reservation deposit is eligible for refund while your move is more than 72 hours away and is non-refundable at 72 hours or less. Rescheduling to a future date is subject to availability, may change the price if the crew size or addresses change, may carry a reservation change fee, and does not restart the 72-hour window. Same-day cancellations, or cancelling after the crew has been dispatched or has arrived, may mean the deposit is forfeited and the minimum service charge is owed. Section 13 of our terms of service has the full wording.

Scheduling & access

Timing and street access.

Atlanta skyline overlooking Interstate 85 traffic near the North Avenue exit during sunset.
I-85 at the North Avenue exit as the evening wave builds — the 3:30–7 p.m. window we schedule intown starts around.

The Downtown Connector, I-285, and GA-400 set every intown move’s rhythm. We schedule starts around the 7–10 a.m. and 3:30–7 p.m. waves, and because LIOO operates 24/7 at the same rates, night moves are often the practical answer in Midtown and Downtown, where freight elevators and curb space are easier to secure after hours. Month-end weekends are the tightest booking window in every apartment submarket; mid-month weekdays book easier and run faster. Stadium event days downtown are routed around, not through.

Most residential moves need no parking permit — a driveway or a legal curb spot solves it. In Downtown, Midtown, and dense intown streets, reserving curb space or blocking a lane can require a right-of-way permit from the Atlanta Department of Transportation, which accepts applications online. When your address calls for one, we flag it at booking. Buildings with loading docks replace street parking with a dock reservation, handled in the same pre-move checklist as the COI — which is why dock buildings reward precise start times: miss the reserved window and the crew waits on the next opening.

Scope

What we move, and what we don’t.

We move nearly everything in a home or office, including the pieces many crews decline. Pianos, gun safes, gym equipment and pool tables are assessed in advance and moved by the heavy-item crew; a $100 specialty-item fee applies to pianos, gun safes and any single item over 300 pounds. What we will not carry is the short list every licensed Georgia mover works from, plus the things that should ride with you because no valuation coverage can replace them.

We don’t transport

  • Hazardous materials — fuel, propane tanks, paint, chemicals
  • Firearms and ammunition
  • Live plants and animals
  • Perishable food
  • Hot tubs — outside our scope
  • Anything the customer does not legally own

Carry these yourself

  • Cash, jewelry and collectibles
  • Passports and legal documents
  • Medication
  • Antiques and sentimental items that cannot be replaced at $0.60 per pound
  • Laptops, chargers and the first-night box

The full move-day list, including what to set aside before the crew arrives, is on our moving preparation guide; the contractual version is section 29 of our terms of service.

Atlanta moving questions

Atlanta moving FAQs.

Straight answers on cost, timing, permits, and building access — the things that actually decide how an Atlanta move runs.

Pricing & Costs

How much do movers cost in Atlanta?

Expect $160–$320 per hour depending on crew size, with a 2.5-hour minimum (3 hours on weekends, same-day bookings, and moves 25+ miles from downtown). Most Atlanta apartment moves total $400–$1,300 and most houses $1,000–$2,400+. The biggest cost variables intown are elevator access, carry distance, and stairs — not mileage.

How long will my move take?

A studio or 1BR with two movers typically runs 2.5–5.5 hours; a 2BR with three movers, 3.5–6.5; a 3BR house, 4.5–7.5; larger homes, 5–9 or more. Elevator access, carry distance, and furniture disassembly matter more than square footage.

How does the deposit work?

A 25% reservation deposit secures your move date and is fully credited toward your final bill. It’s not an add-on fee.

Is my stuff covered during the move?

Basic released valuation at $0.60 per pound per item is included on every job. Full-value protection is available if you elect it before the job starts — worth considering for high-value, low-weight items like electronics and art.

Process & What to Expect

Do I need a parking permit for a moving truck in Atlanta?

Usually not — most moves work from a driveway or legal curb space. In Downtown, Midtown, and dense intown streets, reserving curb space or blocking a lane can require a right-of-way permit from the Atlanta Department of Transportation. We flag this during booking when your address calls for it.

My building requires a COI. How does that work?

Tell us the building name when you book. We coordinate a certificate of insurance naming your building’s management and handle the freight-elevator reservation with them directly. This is routine for Midtown and Buckhead towers.

Can you move me on nights or weekends?

Yes — LIOO operates 24/7 at the same rates. In Midtown and Downtown, an evening start often means a shorter move: less competition for the freight elevator and an empty curb.

Scheduling & Service

Can you do a same-day move in Atlanta?

Often, yes, depending on crew availability. See our same-day moving service, or call (888) 611-5351 — a dispatcher answers around the clock.

How far ahead should I book Atlanta movers?

Two to three weeks ahead for a month-end weekend, about a week for a mid-month weekday, and same-day if that is what you have — LIOO runs 24/7 with a 3-hour minimum on same-day and weekend bookings. The 25% reservation deposit is what holds the date; a quote alone reserves nothing.

What happens if I cancel or reschedule my Atlanta move?

Cancel or reschedule before move day. More than 72 hours out, your 25% deposit is eligible for refund; at 72 hours or less it is not. Moving to a new date depends on availability, can change the price, may carry a change fee, and does not reset the 72-hour clock. Cancelling same-day, or after the crew has been dispatched or has arrived, may forfeit the deposit and owe the minimum service charge. Full wording: section 13 of our terms of service.

Should I tip Atlanta movers?

Tipping is never required and never appears on your invoice. If your crew earns it, cash handed directly to each mover is the norm, scaled to job difficulty — stairs and July heat earn more.
