Atlanta–Tampa route brief456 road miles · 353 of them on one highway · Eastern Time throughout

A household moving from Atlanta to Tampa travels about 456 road miles, and for 353 of them the truck stays on I-75 without a single change of highway. That length is why LIOO Moving quotes the job on what the shipment weighs and how far it goes rather than on crew hours: the inventory from a survey becomes one binding written figure, and a LIOO crew in a LIOO truck takes the load from the Atlanta driveway to the Tampa one.

I-75 from Atlanta to the Tampa Bay fork

Apart from the Macon bypass and the last 16 miles, Atlanta to Tampa is I-75 start to finish, and the estimate's mileage runs along it between your two addresses.

Out of the Connector the truck heads south, loops around Macon on I-475 from Exit 177, and picks I-75 up again below the city. It then holds that one highway for 353 miles: Perry, Tifton and Valdosta; the state line at about mile 242, where Lowndes County gives way to Hamilton County, Florida; Lake City, Gainesville and Ocala; and the long straight run down the spine of the peninsula into Pasco County. At Exit 274, some 438 miles from Atlanta, I-275 forks off toward Tampa and St. Petersburg. The truck takes the fork for 16 miles into Hillsborough County, crosses the city limit at mile 448 and comes off at the downtown exits.

LIOO Moving's own measurement of the drive on the road network is 456 miles, 242 in Georgia and 214 in Florida. The FHWA route log gives I-75 nearly 471 miles across Florida, and this trip uses it from the state line to the fork, roughly the northern half.

Whose rules govern your Tampa delivery

Only about a quarter of Hillsborough County's residents live inside the City of Tampa, so a "Tampa" address is as likely to be county land as city; the table sorts out which is which.

Loading in Atlanta, unloading in Tampa

Each end of an Atlanta to Tampa move is planned on its own, and the estimate carries both plans.

Loading in Atlanta starts with the truck, a 26-foot box with a lift gate. A high-rise pickup adds management's dock window and its certificate of insurance, which LIOO sends the day the building's requirements arrive, and the freight elevator, reserved by LIOO where buildings let a mover do so and by the resident where they do not; the crew arrives for the slot either way.

Tampa is split down the middle. Census figures for 2020–2024 put 50% of the city's housing units in detached single-family houses and 21% in buildings of 20 or more units, with 16% in buildings of 50 or more. A downtown or Channel District tower is handled like an Atlanta tower, dock, elevator and certificate included. A house in Carrollwood or Riverview is a curb question: driveway length, turning room for a 26-foot truck and the walk to the door, all recorded at the survey.

When the Tampa closing lands after the truck does, the crew can unload into a self-storage unit or a portable container that you have hired nearby; LIOO Moving operates no storage building. A container on a driveway follows the community's rules, which the resident confirms and the estimate records.

No inventory, no price

From inventory to a binding Tampa price

Until LIOO has an inventory there is no Atlanta to Tampa price to give, since the weight it produces is one of the two numbers everything rests on.

The inventory can be a list you write room by room, a video walk-through of the Atlanta home, or a surveyor's visit. From it LIOO writes an estimate that shows estimated weight or cubic feet, mileage, packing, access at each address and the included released valuation; the total is binding, and it is fixed before a date is held. The hourly rate card LIOO publishes for local moves inside Metro Atlanta plays no part in it.

Surge zones, storm months and the first weeks in Florida

Three dates on the Atlanta to Tampa calendar

Three dates matter on this route: the hurricane season that covers the Gulf coast, the evacuation zone your new address sits in, and the deadlines Florida sets for new residents.

Atlantic hurricane season runs from 1 June to 30 November, and Tampa Bay is on the Gulf, so a storm that closes I-75 or floods the streets near the new address can push the delivery later; the estimate gives delivery as a window rather than a count of days, and LIOO's terms contain no completion time. Hillsborough County redrew its evacuation zones for the 2026 season, lettered A through E and based on NOAA storm-surge data, with Zone A evacuating first along with every mobile home; the county's HEAT tool at HCFL.gov/HEAT returns the zone for any address, and it is worth knowing before a summer move date is set. Once you have arrived, Florida gives a new resident 30 days to obtain a Florida driver licence and 10 days to title and register vehicles.

Weight, miles, access, date and packing

Atlanta to Tampa moving costs

The Atlanta to Tampa route has no hourly rate card and no published price list: the move is priced per shipment.

A long-distance move is priced on the shipment's weight and the distance, adjusted for access, the date and packing, and the price is set in a binding estimate after a survey. The deposit and balance terms for a long-distance move are stated in your written estimate before you book.

Released valuation is included at $0.60 per pound per item and limited to $2,000 per move under the Terms of Service; it is not insurance, and damage is reported within 2 calendar days of the move's completion.

Pianos, gun safes and any single item over 300 pounds carry a $100 specialty-item fee each, listed on the estimate. Nothing over 400 pounds is lifted, grand pianos are not moved, and an item over 300 pounds is not carried up or down a full flight of stairs (five steps at most).

Packing, buildings and storage

Add-ons for a 456-mile move

Three services can ride along with this move, each priced separately on the estimate.

Packing before 456 miles of road

Every room or only the ones you name, itemised on the estimate; breakables get paper, padding and a box from the crew, and a piece that calls for a crate is referred to a crating specialist because LIOO does not build crates.

Tower to tower, Atlanta to Tampa

Dock windows, elevator reservations and the certificate each building requires are pinned down for both ends before loading begins.

A unit near the new address

Where the truck reaches Tampa ahead of the closing, the load goes into a storage unit or container you have hired close to the new home.

Jacksonville, Miami and the earlier routes

Other long-distance lanes out of Atlanta

Tampa is the second-longest of the four Florida routes; Jacksonville, Orlando and Miami share the I-75 start and the weight-and-distance pricing.

The Georgia routes and the Charlotte, Dallas, Houston, Nashville, Washington, DC and Orlando runs are listed together on the long-distance moving from Atlanta page.
Asked about the Tampa run

Questions before an Atlanta to Tampa move

How many miles is Atlanta to Tampa by road?

About 456 between the two downtowns. The truck runs down I-75 past Macon and Valdosta, enters Florida at Hamilton County, holds I-75 through Lake City, Gainesville and Ocala, and forks onto I-275 at Exit 274 for the last 16 miles. Your estimate's mileage is measured between your Atlanta address and your Tampa address on that same road.

Is the Tampa address inside the city, or in the county?

Either is possible, and it changes whose curb rules apply. The City of Tampa covers 114 square miles of a 1,022-square-mile county, and Brandon, Riverview, Carrollwood, Town 'n' Country and Westchase are all unincorporated. ZIP 33617 is split between Temple Terrace, Tampa and county land, so LIOO plans from the street address rather than the ZIP code.

Does my new address's evacuation zone matter for the move?

For a summer or autumn date, yes. Hillsborough County redrew its storm-surge evacuation zones, A through E, for the 2026 season, and Zone A, together with every mobile home, is evacuated first. The county's HEAT tool at HCFL.gov/HEAT gives the zone for any address, and knowing it helps you leave room in the dates for a move between June and November.

Will one LIOO crew handle both ends of the move?

Yes. A LIOO Moving crew, background-checked and employed by the company, loads a company truck in Atlanta and drives it to Tampa, and the people who unload are the people who loaded. There is no broker, no subcontractor and no Florida firm at the other end, and nothing is transferred at a depot along I-75.

Does the truck stop anywhere between Atlanta and Tampa?

At one scheduled point. Florida Statutes 570.15 make it an offence for a truck to pass an official agricultural inspection station without stopping, and the southbound I-75 station sits at White Springs in Hamilton County, a few miles inside the state line. The stop is part of every Tampa run and the delivery window already allows for it.

Is an Atlanta to Tampa move charged by the hour?

No. One figure covers the shipment. The survey gives its weight, the road gives 456 miles, and the date, any packing and the access at both ends raise or lower the number. The written estimate lists each of these with the included released valuation, and its binding total is the amount due; the hourly card used for local Atlanta moves is not applied to this route.

What do I need to do in Florida after the move?

Two deadlines come quickly. Florida's Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles asks a new resident to obtain a Florida driver licence within 30 days of establishing residency, and to title and register vehicles, vessels and mobile homes within 10 days, after taking out cover with an insurance agent in Florida. Residency can begin the day you start a job or enrol a child in a public school.

Do you also move people from Tampa up to Atlanta?

No. The out-of-state routes LIOO Moving runs all begin in the Atlanta area and run outward. This page is for a move loaded in Metro Atlanta or a nearby Georgia community and unloaded in the Tampa area; a household leaving Florida needs a mover based in Florida.
