How Much Does It Cost to Move in Metro Atlanta? (2026)
Almost every “moving cost calculator” online gives you a number with no idea what your home or your building is actually like. This page does the opposite: it shows you exactly how a local move is priced, lets you build a real estimate from the same factors a dispatcher uses to scope a job, and points you to the right crew for your specific move. It’s the most honest cost breakdown you’ll find for metro Atlanta — because the math is transparent and the only number we won’t show you is a fake one.
What a move actually costs at LIOO
A local move is priced on crew-hours, not mileage — how many movers, for how long, plus the truck. Here are the real rates, everything included:
| Crew | Hourly rate | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| 2 movers + truck | $160/hr | Studios, 1–2 bedroom apartments & condos |
| 3 movers + truck | $200/hr | 2–3 bedroom homes |
| 4 movers + truck | $240/hr | 3–4 bedroom homes |
| Larger crews | Quoted to scope | Estates & high-volume moves |
Included in every rate: the truck, fuel, dollies, furniture pads, and straps; disassembly and reassembly of standard furniture; licensed, insured movers. Quoted separately: packing materials and packing labor, specialty items (pianos, safes), and long-distance moves. Your exact number is confirmed in writing before move day — no hidden fees.
How movers actually price your job
Every honest local-move quote is the same simple equation:
crew size × hours on the job × hourly rate
Crew size and the hourly rate come straight from the table above — they’re set by how much you’re moving. The variable that actually moves your bill is hours, and hours are driven less by your square footage than by access: stairs, how far the truck parks from the door, whether there’s an elevator and a Certificate of Insurance to coordinate, and how much is packed before the crew arrives. The estimate engine below builds your hours the same way a dispatcher does.
Build your estimate
The same factors a LIOO dispatcher uses to scope a local move. Estimates the core hourly labor cost — your exact price is confirmed in writing.

What changes your price
Two “3-bedroom” moves can cost very differently. These are the real levers, in roughly the order they matter:
Access & carry distance. If the truck can’t park at the door — a long driveway, a cart path, a high-rise dock — every item is a longer carry, and that’s pure time on the clock.
Stairs & floors. A walk-up or a three-story home over a basement adds vertical carries on every load. See our apartment high-rise vs. walk-up guide for how much stairs really add.
Building rules (COI & elevators). Managed buildings require a Certificate of Insurance and a reserved freight elevator, which adds coordination and dock-window time — our apartment movers handle the paperwork.
How much is packed. Boxed and stacked by the door loads in a fraction of the time. Need help? Packing services are quoted on top of the hourly rate.
Timing. Mid-week and mid-month are quietest and easiest to book; the last weekend of the month and deep summer are the busiest and priciest stretches.
Distance. Local moves are hourly; long-distance moves are quoted by shipment size and distance instead.
The complete 2026 rate card
Every rate below is all-inclusive — crew, truck (on full-service), fuel, equipment, padding and wrap. No fuel surcharges, no stair fees, no travel charge inside metro Atlanta. The only variable is time.
Full-service moving (truck included)
2 movers + truck — $160/hr. Studios, 1-bedrooms, small 2-bedrooms.
3 movers + truck — $200/hr. The workhorse crew for most 2–3 bedroom homes — often cheaper overall than 2 movers, because the job finishes faster.
4 movers + truck — $240/hr. Larger homes, heavy furniture counts, tight timelines.
5 movers + truck — $280/hr. 4-bedroom+ homes and estates.
6 movers + truck — $320/hr. The biggest single-day jobs we run.
Labor-only (you have the truck or container)
Loading, unloading, or in-home lifting with your rental truck, POD, or container — see labor-only crews:
2 movers — $140/hr · 3 movers — $180/hr · 4 movers — $220/hr · 5 movers — $260/hr · 6 movers — $300/hr.
No travel charge in metro Atlanta, and a 25% reserve deposit credited to your final invoice — the balance is due after the job (card, ACH, or cash).
Minimums, deposits, and long-distance — the fine print, in plain English
Minimum hours: 2.5 hours on standard local moves. 3 hours on weekends, same-day moves, and moves 25+ miles from downtown.
Deposits: full-service reserves your date with a 25% deposit, fully credited to your final invoice. Labor-only follows the same rule — 25% to reserve, credited in full to the final invoice. If you reschedule, the deposit stays fully credited — just call.
Long-distance (within Georgia): priced per shipment — the weight or cubic footage of what we load, access on both ends, and the date — in a binding written quote after a survey, not by the hour. A small deposit reserves the truck; the balance is due on delivery, before unload. Details on our Georgia long-distance page.
Two worked examples at base rates
2-bedroom apartment, full-service: 3 movers × 4 hours × $200/hr = $800, truck and equipment included.
Unloading a 26-ft rental truck, labor-only: 2 movers × 2.5 hours (minimum) × $140/hr = $350.
Illustrative math at base rates — your written quote reflects your actual inventory, access, and date, and the number on the quote is the number on the bill.

What moves cost across metro Atlanta
The hourly rate is the same wherever you are in metro Atlanta — what changes is the hours, because each area’s housing and access are different. Here’s what drives cost in each part of the metro, with the local guide and the crew for each city:
Gated estates & lake homes
Long, gated, often steep driveways mean shuttles and long carries — the access, not the square footage, runs the bill.
High-rise & apartment corridors
COI, reserved freight elevators, and dock windows add coordination time over curb-to-door moves.
Historic & tight-access homes
No driveways, narrow doors, and street-only parking mean shuttle staging and careful, slower carries.
Airport & south-metro access
Near Hartsfield-Jackson the mix is airport-adjacent apartments and tight-lot bungalows — gate codes, COIs, and narrow streets set the pace more than the mileage.
Suburban & value markets
Wide driveways keep the truck at the door — bedroom count and stairs set the hours, plus commute timing.
Moving to a specific city? Each Johns Creek crew page covers that area’s access in detail, and the guides above break down exactly what changes the hours where you’re headed.
How to lower your moving cost
Be fully packed and stacked by the door. The single biggest lever you control — it can cut a load time in half.
Clear the access and parking at both ends so the truck gets close and the carry is short.
Right-size the crew. A larger crew costs more per hour but often finishes in fewer hours — on bigger homes that’s cheaper overall.
Book a mid-month weekday if your dates flex, and handle the COI or gate code in advance so the clock isn’t running while you wait.
Declutter first. Fewer boxes and less furniture is fewer hours.
An estimate gets you in the ballpark; a walkthrough quote gets you the real price. Tell us the home, the floors, and the access and we’ll put your exact cost in writing up front — a two-mover crew and truck start at $160/hr ($200/hr for three, $240/hr for four), everything included, no hidden fees. Licensed and insured. Call 888-611-5351.
Does the time of year change your cost?
n
At LIOO Moving, the time of year does not change your hourly rate: crews cost the same on nights, weekends, and holidays as they do on a Tuesday morning — the same published rates, year-round. That is a deliberate policy, and it is not the metro Atlanta norm.
n
What the calendar does change is availability. Demand clusters around three predictable pinch points, so the real seasonal cost of waiting is losing your preferred date — or paying another company’s peak-season premium:
n
- n
- Summer (May–August): the busiest stretch of the year — book 3–4 weeks ahead for a specific date, longer for month-end.
- Month-end and first-of-month weekends: lease turnovers cluster here in apartment-heavy areas; mid-month, mid-week dates are consistently easier to get.
- January and February: the widest-open calendar — flexible dates get first pick of crew and start time.
n
n
n
n
So the honest seasonal advice is about booking lead time, not rate shopping: the price of a two-mover crew is the same in July as in January — what varies is how far ahead you need to reserve it.

Atlanta moving cost FAQs
How much does it cost to hire movers in Atlanta?
A local move is billed hourly: a two-mover crew and truck start at $160/hr, $200/hr for three movers, $240/hr for four, with the truck, dollies, pads, and straps included. Most 1–2 bedroom moves run about $480–$1,200 and most 3–4 bedroom moves about $1,200–$2,400, depending on crew size, hours, and access. Long-distance and packing are quoted separately, and the exact number is confirmed in writing — no hidden fees.
What’s included in the hourly rate?
The truck and fuel, dollies, furniture pads, and straps, plus disassembly and reassembly of standard furniture, with licensed and insured movers. Packing materials and labor, specialty items like pianos and safes, and long-distance moves are quoted separately.
How many hours will my move take?
Roughly 3–5 hours for a studio or 1-bedroom, 4–6 for a 2-bedroom, 6–8 for a 3-bedroom, and 8–10 for a 4-bedroom — before adjusting for stairs, long carries, elevators, and how much is packed. The estimate engine above adjusts for those factors.
Are there hidden fees, travel fees, or minimums?
No hidden fees — your written quote shows the rate and the scope up front. Larger estate moves use bigger crews quoted to scope, and packing and long-distance are quoted separately, but everything is agreed before move day.
How can I get an exact price?
Request a written quote: tell us the home size, the floors and access at both ends, and your date, and we’ll confirm the crew, the estimated hours, and the rate in writing. Call 888-611-5351 or request an estimate online.
How much should I tip the movers?
Tipping is not part of the moving rate and is never required, but for good service most customers tip about 15–20% of the total, or a flat $10–$50 per mover depending on the size and difficulty of the move. See our guide to how much to tip movers for charts and examples.
