Two school systems, decided by the city line

The City of Marietta’s limit also decides the schools. Homes inside Marietta are zoned to Marietta City Schools, an independent district with its own calendar, while homes outside the line, including most addresses that only carry a Marietta ZIP, attend the Cobb County School District. For the county district, 2026–27 brings a Thanksgiving week off (23–27 November), a winter break running 21 December through 1 January, a mid-February week (15–19) and spring break on 5–9 April; classes finish on 19 May 2027. Marietta City Schools keeps the same February and spring weeks, but its last day is 26 May 2027, a week after the county’s.

Detached houses are 42.8 percent of Marietta’s 26,783 homes and attached townhome-style homes 12.4 percent. The older houses cluster near the Square, where the National Register historic districts sit. Half of renters pay more than $1,586 a month, according to the survey.

The Square: parking, crossings and one-way streets

Moving near the Marietta Square takes a little planning. On-street parking around it carries no charge but has a two-hour maximum. The visitor bureau says the limit is enforced from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. every day with a $25 fine, and that six spaces are 15-minute pickup spots. Cherokee Street runs one way north and Church Street one way south, and five streets cross the CSX line at grade within a few blocks of the Square. The farmers market fills the Mill Street side every Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon, and the market’s site also lists Sunday from noon to 3 p.m.

Roads, buses and the distance to Atlanta

Cobb County has no MARTA rail; CobbLinc runs the local buses, and all its local routes except Route 25 connect at the Marietta Transfer Center. The Marietta Loop, State Route 120 as North and South Marietta Parkway, circles the center, with US 41 (Cobb Parkway) and I-75 running along the east side. In a straight line the city sits 11.0 to 20.6 miles from Five Points, inside the 25-mile line, so a weekday local move starts from the 2.5-hour minimum. Weekends carry a 3-hour minimum, as do same-day bookings and moves of 25 miles or more from downtown.
