The bungalow core: Los Angeles, Adair, Lanier, Highland View & Drewry
Houses built for trolley commuters assume a wardrobe, not a 40-inch sectional. Front doors often run 30 to 32 inches, interior doors 28 to 30, and the stair to a second floor or finished attic turns tight under a low landing. The walkthrough is a measurement pass: what will not clear its narrowest opening comes apart at origin or leaves by the kitchen door. Lanier Boulevard's mile-long park median makes it the one core street where a 26-foot truck sits without taking a lane.
Atkins Park: St. Louis, St. Charles & St. Augustine Places
Three short streets laid out from 1912 between North Highland and Briarcliff, on the National Register since 1982, anchored by the 1922 tavern at North Highland and St. Charles. The three "saints" streets park both sides and share a curb with a node that has been meter-free since the City Council pulled the last Atkins Park meters in September 2025 — free all day means full by lunch, so moves here stage on the residential block and start by 8 a.m. Briarcliff Place is the district's northern edge and runs the same way, North Highland to Briarcliff Road — the truck's way out to Briarcliff without crossing the node.
The Amsterdam edge & the Morningside line
North toward Amsterdam Avenue the lots widen into Tudor and Colonial Revival houses, some with driveways — the easiest truck positions in the neighborhood. The trade is Amsterdam itself: the warehouse node at North Highland and the Amsterdam Walk strip between Monroe Drive and the BeltLine load daytime traffic onto a two-lane street, and Portman Holdings filed permits in May 2026 to redevelop the roughly 11-acre Amsterdam Walk site. If that breaks ground while Monroe is torn up, Amsterdam becomes a street to load from early or not at all. Above it is Morningside.
The Ponce edge: 1920s walk-ups, and Poncey-Highland across the street
Ponce de Leon Avenue is the southern border and the only true arterial — four to five lanes, the road every truck uses to get in. The blocks facing it hold the apartment stock: 1920s courtyard and walk-up buildings with a shared stair, no elevator, and a frontage that is a bus stop or a no-parking zone, so the truck loads from the side street behind. Across Ponce is Poncey-Highland, not Inman Park — Inman Park starts another half mile south at Freedom Parkway. Apartment crews handle the stair math.
Homes backing the BeltLine Eastside Trail
The western edge is the old Southern Railway grade, now the Eastside Trail, with access at Monroe Drive and Amsterdam Walk. Back yards on Park Drive and the streets west of North Highland meet the trail, busy with walkers and bikes from dawn until after dark — nothing stages on it; the truck takes the street and the crew works through the house. The apartment complex on the old trolley-barn site where Virginia Avenue meets the trail loads from its own drive, the exception on this edge.

Monroe Drive through 2028, in dispatch terms

On the parking side, in front of your house if the frontage is open, otherwise within two houses of it. Dispatch asks you to let neighbors on that side know the evening before, and the truck shows up before the block fills. When the frontage is taken anyway, the truck waits at the nearest gap and the crew walks the difference — a carry already in the estimate. On Lanier Boulevard none of this comes up.
Do I need a parking permit for the moving truck in Virginia-Highland?
The moving truck doesn't take a residential permit, but much of the neighborhood sits in one of Atlanta's residential permit parking areas, where a vehicle without the block's permit can be limited to two hours, enforced by plate reader.
